George Vallins
George started competitive racing in 1979 at the age of six with the Colac Cycling Club. He focused mainly on the track up to the age of 16, winning numerous medals at country and state level.
After competing in both road and track events, he was selected to represent Victorian teams and then Australia at the Oceana Games in New Zealand. In the following years, he was placed 2nd in the National Titles and 3rd in the Grafton to Inverall.
After several years away from competition, exploring other sports including triathlons and football, George made a come back to cycling in 1997 and finished 12th in the Tour of Sunraysia.
After two years "taking things pretty easy" and another two years off the bike, and gaining 25kg, George decided to start achieving some of his lifetime cycling goals.
He begin the 2003 road season on a 25 minute handicap and quickly moved to scratch position, gaining top 10 placings in most of the opens throughout the season, including:
- 1st in the Preston Mountain Classic;
- 3rd in the Midlands Tour;
- 5th in the Victorian Road Championships.
George was selected to ride the Herald Sun Tour in 2003, and rode the Bay Series in January 2004. He joined Team UNO in June 2004.
