Ryhs Pollock
Rhys grew up in Sydney and the Blue Mountains where he developed his taste for BMX racing. After moving to Albury, he continued racing BMX until trying his hand at mountain biking, which led to his new love for bike racing.
Soon after getting his first MTB he started racing at national level, and finished 2 nd in the Australian Under 19 Championships. He was then selected to race for Australia in the World Championships in Canada in 1998.
The following year, as a first year in the Under 23s, he finished 8 th in the Australian Elite Mens' Championships and 1 st in the Under 23s, then represented Australia in two rounds of the MTB World Cup, in Sydney and Belgium, and in the World Championships in Sweden in 1999.
Rhys decided to stay in Australia to study and race. He started competing in some road racers during the winter to build up for the MTB season, and developed a potential for road racing.
After finishing 11 th in the Tattersall's Cup series he was given a ride in the Sun Tour but had to withdrew before the start with a knee injury.
From then on, Rhys decided to concentrate 100% on the road, packed his bags and headed to Belguim where he spent what he regards as the best four months of racing overseas and discovering a different way of life.
Rhys 2003 and 2004 racing in France, living in Strasbourg and racing with the team Pedale d'Alsace. He earned 19 top tens and five podium finishes and one win.
He joined Team UNO in September, with plenty of racing under his belt and ready to tackle this year's Sun Tour with more confidence and strength.
Rhys' aspirations are to turn professional in the next few years, but if goal isn't fulfilled he says he will continue racing for as long as he enjoys it, and that is something he can't see ending in the near future.
